Just do it.
In my previous post, I stated that I was doing a weight loss challenge on Reddit’s /r/loseit.
As of today(a week from when it started), I had only lost 1 pound.. bringing me to a weight of 245. I drank a lot of water the night before and whatnot so I wasn’t too bothered by it, but considering I had seen 243.8 yesterday I felt that I had somewhat let myself down.
This evening, I was about to go take a shower but thought to myself “Hey, why don’t you go for a walk, jog, or even just do some exercises before showering?” This sounded like a good idea to me, but then I started making excuses as to why I shouldn’t do anything. I started thinking things like this -
- “Well, it’s reallllly cold outside so I shouldn’t.”
- “I could do some situps and pushups but just those alone aren’t gonna do anything for me.”
After deliberating in my head for a few minutes, I decided to stop and just say to myself “Fuck it. You went outside to run a lot of times in the past on a whim and you felt great afterwards. Why should tonight be any different?”
So it was decided. I’d go outside for a run. Tonight’s run would be a bit different though.

About two weeks ago, I heard of a thing called C25K(Couch to 5K) from Reddit. C25K is a program that takes place over the course of two or three months. The goal of this program is stated in the name - to get you from the Couch to doing a 5K. There are 3 days of running in 3 weeks, and the intensity/difficulty goes up as you progress, helping you gain endurance to eventually run a 5K.
I decided to download an app for my iPhone, and then proceeded to set it aside in my head(knowing that I probably wouldn’t end up actually doing it, but I reasoned with myself that downloading the app was good enough).

I remembered that app this evening. In my moment of motivation where I decided to go for a run, I decided to take it to the next level and start my C25K journey.
Nothing special after this - the run was easy at first and became more difficult as I progressed through the minutes. The first exercise is 28.5 minutes total:
- 5min warmup
- 1min run, with a 1.5min walk afterwards (x8)
- 5min cooldown
Saying that it got difficult as I progressed through the minutes was an understatement. It got extremely difficult but I never got the feeling that I wanted to quit, because as each minute passed I knew I was that much closer to being done and feeling sweet victory.
The soreness that my legs are going to feel tomorrow will be awesome. It will remind me that I decided to just do it.
